Breakout or Breakup

It was a date night weekend again! We have a great little idea to share with you for our #dateproject series! Boring dates no more! This weekend we double dated with a great couple-friend of ours. We started off with dinner at a new restaurant and loved it! The next stop was our escape room adventure...

Do you have an escape room near you? These are becoming a trend, I think, as three of them have recently popped up in Columbia. When I first heard of this concept, I thought of it as a "panic room," and it sounded pretty terrifying. I don't like anything even remotely scary (I once walked out of a movie after only about 10 minutes because I didn't realize it was a horror movie!) "Panic room" sends me into a bit of a panic. But that's not what this was at all! The escape room concept basically uses your observational skills and quick thinking ability to problem solve your way out of a locked room. We were in a Stock Exchange themed room where we had to find codes for briefcases, locked drawers, secret rooms, padlocks, etc. They give you clues along the way and you have to beat the one hour timer. It was so much fun, and even though we didn't break out (but just barely), we still had a great time! It was much more creative than sitting in a movie theater! (And contrary to the title of this post, we did not breakup!)

Your turn! What do you have on tap for your date night? Share your idea in the comments!

Why Valentine's Day Isn't the Worst

Well, another V-Day is in the books.  How was yours?  Was it full of romance and heart eyes?  Was it a let-down?  Or was it just another day?

I meant to write this post last week, when Valentine's Day was still fresh in my mind.  But life got the better of me, as tends to happen.  A little reflection won't hurt anyone, even if it is a week late, right?

The Pen is Mightier

All I can think of is that old SNL sketch, Celebrity Jeopardy with fake Sean Connery. (Warning...the inappropriateness level is pretty high on that sketch, so if you're not into that, just keep reading and forget I ever mentioned it!)  But I digress...that is NOT what this post is about!

I like to fancy myself a writer.  I am not a professional writer, by any stretch of the imagination. But I do have a good grip of language and enjoy putting pen to paper (or fingers to keys, as the case may be.)  I also find that I can express myself much more fully and thoughtfully in writing.

Two Little Words

Apparently, "words" are my writing theme for 2017...who knew?!

Today I was livin' that gym life at my favorite fitness establishment (shout out to Columbia Jazzercise Center!), and as I was sweating through an intense workout, our instructor was sharing with us her New Year's resolution.  I thought it was one of the better ones I've heard, so I wanted to share it here!

One Word

2017 is almost upon us...how in the world did that happen?!  I don't know about you, but I'm ready to bid "Adieu" to 2016.  And for whatever reason, be it the long nights or the softening of hearts around the Christmas season, I naturally spend much of December in reflection mode.  I'm not usually one for New Year's resolutions or choosing a word for the year, but this time, a word chose me.

How to Talk to Your Spouse About Marriage Encounter

So, you’ve heard about this Marriage Encounter thing and you kind of might want to think about going. Now what? There’s just this pesky little thing called “getting your spouse to agree.” Shoot. I mean, don’t actually shoot. That’s not what we recommend. We also don’t recommend lying, trickery, bribery, or tranquilizers of any kind.

But if you’re concerned their reaction might go something like this...

My Adult Life

If I had to sum up my adult life with a time line, this is what it would look like so far:

Age 22-35–DO ALL THE THINGS

When I turned 22, I graduated college, got married, and 9 months later we had a sweet baby to call our own. Over the course of the next two years, my husband finished school and graduated, we both got real jobs, we bought a house, and we had our second baby.  We were 25 and 24.  Since then, we have changed jobs and homes, and have added two more kids to the mix. All this to say that our first years of marriage were full to the brim in more ways than one.

Maybe you can relate?
